In 1975, a five-year-old child is handed off in an orphanage by the family that adopted her. The nun in charge informs her that another family will contact her. Now fast forward to 1980. A now ten-year-old girl (played by Melissa McCarthy's oldest daughter) is dumped off by her recently adopted family; she wonders why no one wants her. The nun continues to give me hope. The young girl is now an adolescent in 1985. She is sent off by her new family and tells them "Fuck you," flicking them off as they drive away. The nun attempts to encourage her, but the adolescent girl tells her she doesn't need anybody in her life and is content being alone.

It's currently the present day. An amphitheater is packed with grown-up Michelle Darnell (Melissa McCarthy) followers. She is dropped from the stage on the back of a mechanical phoenix and begins a (very spectacular) hip-hop dance sequence with T-Pain and shirtless male dancers. She then speaks to the audience, referring her many self-help books on how to get rich, and advises them that if they have family, they should drive them away since they just hold you back. She also mentions that despite not having a family, she is the 47th richest woman in the world.
