A guy (Logan Miller) is shown attempting to solve a problem in order to escape a falling chamber.

Three days before, Zoey (Taylor Russell), a shy physics student, attends a lecture on the Quantum Zeno Effect hypothesis, which asserts that "a system cannot change while you are witnessing it." Over the Thanksgiving holiday, her lecturer urges her to take a risk.

Ben (Logan Miller), who was earlier seen in the collapsing room, is a stock boy at a grocery store who is frustrated by his boss' refusal to promote him to a better role and a higher salary.

Jason (Jay Ellis) is a young stockbroker who is well-liked by his coworkers for his fast-paced, go-getter attitude.

Zoey, Ben, and Jason each get a puzzle box from a trustworthy acquaintance: Zoey's professor, Ben's boss, and Jason's customer. After completing the puzzle, a clue leads them to the Minos Escape Room, where they can win $10,000 if they successfully escape.

Amanda (Deborah Ann Woll), Mike (Tyler Labine), and Danny (Nik Dodani), a war veteran, come and join Zoey, Ben, and Jason in what looks to be a waiting area. When Ben attempts to leave the room to smoke, the door handle snaps, sealing the door and showing an oven temperature thermometer.
