'Bharat' is the journey of a man and a nation. A family embarks on a perilous trek to freedom on the eve of India's independence. However, this liberty comes at a price. Bharat, an eight-year-old kid, promises his father that he would keep his family together no matter what—a vow he maintains for the next 60 years, despite each decade bringing a new set of problems at him—some hilarious, some exhilarating, some romantic, and some life-threatening. His tenacity, commitment, and never-say-die mentality reflect the core virtues of our nation—Bharat. Interestingly, the film is an official version of the Korean film 'An Ode to My Father (2014), which depicts modern Korean history from the perspective of a father.

During India's Partition in 1947, a young man is separated from his father with the promise that he will safeguard and lead his family. Bharat, a young child, joins the Great Russian Circus in 1964 and later joins the Indian migration to Gulf territories following the 1970s oil discoveries. He falls in love with the head engineer while simultaneously bringing the immigrant Indians to justice. Throughout his life, from the age of 18 to 70, he fights to uphold his father's pledge and keep the family together.
